Measure more than the sofa
Record the widest, tallest and longest points. Include protruding feet or arms, and confirm whether any part can be removed. Photograph the shape as well as noting dimensions. A product listing may show the seated size rather than the packaged dimensions.
Walk the complete route
Check door openings, corridors, tight turns, stairs and lift doors at both addresses. Think about the route from the room to the vehicle and from the vehicle into the final room. Do not assume a crew can overcome a restricted space simply because the sofa is not very heavy.
Agree handling and preparation
Share the measurements with the operator and ask what preparation is needed. Keep routes clear and arrange appropriate loading help. Do not attempt unsafe lifting or dismantling beyond what you can do competently; awkward or heavy pieces need professional assessment.
Coordinate collection and arrival
For a private purchase, confirm that the seller can provide access and that the item is ready. Agree who is responsible for packaging and dismantling. Give the delivery address the same attention as collection, so your new sofa does not finish its journey outside the front door.
